Welcome aboard the JingWei!

The 'Verse was in turmoil for years, border worlds riddled with unrest and resentment as the core planets leeched their resources and gave little in return. Colonization continued, pushing the frontier further and further with promises of shiny new futures and ripe terra-formed worlds for those gullible enough to trust in the word of the Alliance. It was make-believe. Precious few flourished. More often a colony would founder early, succumbing to disease or worse, the lawless fringes of the 'verse finding easy prey on new worlds unsupported, unprotected by the Alliance.

Miranda was settled barely a year ago...but no one hears from them now. Another world baited then broken on empty promises.

Support for Independence built steadily, fueled by countless false assurances and negotiations that Parliament refused to take seriously, intent on controlling all worlds, uniting them under it's banner.

This year, 2506, the talking ended. Tensions finally boiled over into all out war, beginning a brutal and bloody conflict that would forever change those people and planets caught up in it's grasp. The war of Unification has begun.

» General Rules - Please Read

Posted on Mon May 2, 2011 @ 2:06pm by Captain Beauregard Revere in The Rules

Since moving to SMS and with all of the personnel changes, I thought it would be a good time to present the SIM Rules.

=======
General Rules
=======

1. Remember Roo's golden rule. Surprise everyone but NOT Roo. Please let me know about any plans you have so that I can work it into what I've already got planned and into the plans that others might have. Think of me as the GM (game master) -- my job is to keeping things running smoothly. If you decide to blow up the cargo when I have plans for someone jumping out of the cargo a day or two into the trip, then that's a problem. If I know about it ahead of time, we can talk about something you can blow up that won't affect mine or anyone else's future plans.

2. You are not permitted to injure another player's character unless you have first obtained permission from the player outside of post in OOC chat. Because a fight causing injuries would have ramifications to the storyline, don't forget Rule #1.

3. By extension, you're also not permitted to kill another player's character.

4. Actions don't happen in a vacuum. Anything that happens in a post can be acted upon by another player, presuming its logical that they do so. You might be stealing something from the captain's cabin, for example, and think you went unnoticed. Another player might decide can act upon it -- maybe someone happened to come quietly down the ladder and see you ... or see you going in when they know the Captain isn't there and decide to follow ...

5. Your bio is your guideline -- don't add talents and abilities unless you speak to me first. If you are a mechanic, odds are you aren't also a martial arts expert, champion cook, former companion, and wealthy beyond your wildest dreams. Failures, flaws and weaknesses are just as interesting, if not more so, than all the many and glorious things you can accomplish.

6. Do not change what another player has written -- except, of course, for spleling errors (and yes, that was deliberate :-) ).

7. Do not hold arguments in OOC comments inside of a post. If there's a problem, contact me. If you're trying to work it out with the other player, I'd appreciate being CC'ed on the conversation so that I can be aware of what's going on and help where needed.

8. The minimum posting requirement is one post/week for your primary character. You are highly encouraged to post more often. If you cannot post for that week, please email me so that I know and won't add you to be nag list. :-) (For example, you're out of town or you're writing two JPs). If you know that you're going to be away for more than 72 hours, you can always put yourself on LOA or ELOA. That stops the clock, regarding posts/week, and let's everyone know that you're not available.

9. Please respond to JPs in a timely manner -- if you haven't heard from anyone on your JP in 48 hours, add an OOC comment to the bottom (my usual is 'nudge nudge'). If there's still no answer, let me know and we'll decide what to do together.

=========
Posting Format
=========

1. Posts must meet a minimum of 300 words -- that would be about one double-spaced page in your favorite word processing program. (I know of a good free one if you don't have one and would like to).

2. Body of the post is written in third person/past tense.

3. No response posts. Meaning, you write one side of the conversation and leave the other side blank (requiring the other individual to write a second post filling it all in).

4. No tag posts. Tagging is when you write a post and then add tags at the end for the specific people that you want to answer your post.

5. Do not copy/paste from other posts into yours. If you want to comment on an existing conversation, then summarize that conversation, using your own words, and jump in where you think its appropriate.

6. Also remember that's we're PG here. If you wouldn't have seen it on the television show, then please don't post it to the list.

» Please Welcome Back

Our very own Iolaire has returned to us -- she'll be writing our future mechanic, Sarah Fawkes who happens to be related to the dastardly Armando Caine. Keep in mind everyone that we still need a pilot. If you know of anyone who might be interested, nudge in our direction. In the meantime, we can certainly open it up as an NPC position.

Welcome to the Jing Wei, Sarah!

» Mission Starting

Posted on Tue Mar 29, 2011 @ 11:33am by Captain Beauregard Revere in Out of Character

Once we post "Breakfast" -- unless anyone has an objection, I'd like to start the mission with a repost of Cooper and Beau checking out the homestead. If you have other posts you'd like to post first, please let me know.

Recently, I posted Beau and Cooper checking out the homestead. However, most of the posts to this point have been earlier in the timeline. To prevent confusion, I'm going to move that post to a status of saved and repost once we're all in the same place chronologically.

Its a tricky thing sometimes to walk the line between keeping things moving forward and jumping the gun. I was a bit to eager this time and for that, I apologize.

» NPCs

Since we're going to be building our own 'verse of characters, we now have Personnel Lists for good / bad NPCs.

NPCs require mini bios and will be linked to your main character -- so that you can write a post for your NPC, same as you would for your main character. Before posting, please write to me about your ideas ... since what you do has to fit in with what I've got planned and what everyone else is doing. Generally, as we go forward, I'll offer NPC slots that fit in with the mission and will appear again in future missions.

BTW -- still looking for that third in command Independent/resistance guy. Any takers?
